Spiritual Direction has been around for centuries. Jesus is often attributed as being the world’s foremost example of a Spiritual Director. Spiritual Direction is the practice of creating Sacred Space for another and listening with the “ear of your heart,” as the Benedictine’s would say. It is companioning with another person on their spiritual journey and helping them to awaken to the Divine wisdom that is already within them. It is a journey of connection to the Divine Source of all life. Typically a Spiritual Director will meet with a client on a monthly basis for a session. This session generally lasts for one hour and is completely confidential.
I have been trained as a Spiritual Director through the ‘Souljourners’ program based at the Sophia Center, a Spirituality Center sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, KS. It is a three year ecumenical program. I am a member of Spiritual Directors International, a global learning community of people from many faith traditions and nationalities who share a common passion and commitment to the art and contemplative practice of Spiritual Direction, and I am an Ordained Minister in the Church of the Brethren.
I offer an introductory session of Spiritual Direction free of charge, with each session after that costing $40. If someone is unable to meet this cost, I would gladly discuss this with them to decide what might work better on a sliding scale.
